Samaritan Children’s Home
For grade 3 learners, Thato, Lebogang and Walter, the support from government departments South Africa has made it possible for them to stay in school. They are beneficiary of the Orphan and Child welfare programme. We have provided them with basic school necessities i.e. school uniforms, stationery, and a monthly food hamper. They lives in a four-bedroom RDP house in a rural area. The house is shared with her 59-year-old grandmother, who is their guardian and five cousins who are all still attending school. Their father abandoned them and their family years ago. Their mother has subsequently passed away in 2004. Although the house has electricity, water and sanitation, it is too small for the large family and is negatively affecting their health which has been very unstable.
